From 16-19 June, New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon Christopher Luxon is travelling with a senior business delegation to Japan on his first visit to the country as Prime Minister. Japan is the world’s fourth largest economy and is incredibly important given its place as New Zealand’s fourth largest export market. The mission is designed to help strengthen international relationships to meet the ambitious target of doubling the value of New Zealand’s exports in the next ten years.
Accompanying the Prime Minister is Todd McClay, the New Zealand Trade Minister.
Morrison CEO Paul Newfield is joining the business delegation, reflecting the continued expansion of our firm’s presence in Asia and our relationships in Japan.
Gurīn Energy, a renewable energy development platform established by Infratil Limited, which is managed by Morrison, recently opened an office in Tokyo. This followed Gurīn Energy’s entry into Japan, announced in December 2023, with its plans to develop the country’s largest battery energy storage (BESS) project. The planned project is a 500-megawatt (MW) capacity, four-hour BESS that will be able to store up to 2 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity, more than doubling Japan’s utility-scale lithium-ion battery capacity.
We are excited by the investment opportunities in Japan and the opportunity to deepen our engagement and build new connections.
As one of the world’s longest standing specialist infrastructure investors, Morrison currently has over USD 24 billion of assets under management.
